Stones played MSG 11/69 and 7/72. Not sure the venue you're thinking of where Aug '71 is concerned.

You might be right. It was in support of the Sticky Fingers tour. Steveie Wonder opened and was fantastic ,they led him around so he could play drums ,harmonica and all the keyboards. The Stones opened w/ Brown Sugar and then proceeded to rattle off what seemed like 40 songs w/o any interuptions maybe an audience tease but to that point they were the tightest rock and roll band I had ever seen. It was during a break in camp were they had 3 week and 6 week stays w/ the break and this was in AUG.I thought it was 71 but you think 72' ,as I said not to good w/ dates times and sets.It was the most I had ever paid for a ticket to date at $25 through Ticketmaster...

Yes! At the (at that time) Fabulous Forum in '72. It's amazing what we young'uns got to see as opening acts due to the benevolence of the grateful stars. Martha and the Vandellas opened the show. (I can't remember that part - too zoned, I guess). Once I saw Roy Orbison open for the Eagles when they were pushing Hotel California - absolutely mind-boggling to see this 'middle-aged' dude sing just like his records. He toured like Chuck B - pick up bands in every city and quick-teach the gig. Until Bruce and the Traveling Wilburys rescued him.

Boy I wish I had seen them in '72.
They closed their 1972 North American tour with I think three dates @ MSG. The tour was in support of Exile on Main St. although they were still performing tunes off of Sticky Fingers.
Stevie'd usually come out for the encore. Jagger'd walk him over to the piano and often Stevie would do a Stones song like Satisfaction, and Mick would wing a Stevie's tune, sometimes 'Uptight.'
Some very special and rare footage here of the final night, 7/26/72, Jaggers birthday. which explains the food (birthday cake) fight at one point. It's silent Super-8 footage with sound (from that night I assume) dubbed in, though it doesn't match.
